Hardin Simmons University Recommended Scholars Program

For the incoming freshmen class of 2020, HSU will begin to admit and award merit aid to students based on the recommendations of their high school counselors and principals. We believe the high school academic record and the endorsement of trusted high school faculty and staff who know the student’s potential and capabilities are better predictors of college success than an ACT or SAT score.  Students can be recommended for this program by his/her high school teachers, counselors, or campus principal.

Students from Abilene and the Big Country, who are in the top 25 percent of their high school class – and/or who have a 3.5 core GPA or higher at the end of their junior year – will be guaranteed a minimum of $20,000 per year ($80,000 for four years) through the Abilene and Big Country Distinguished Student Award. Students with a 3.0 to 3.49 core GPA at the end of their junior year will be guaranteed a minimum of $17,000 per year ($68,000 for four years) through the award. For more information on requirements and eligibility, please visit This award will be funded through a combination of scholarships and grants.
